To make travelling across Victoria more accessible, the Victorian Government introduced a regional fare cap on public transport from 31 March 2023. The cap reduces the cost of travel between regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne for all Victorians.

Tickets for public transport throughout Victoria is now capped at $9.20 (full fare) or $4.60 (concession) per weekday. This is the maximum daily cost of travelling anywhere in Victoria, no matter the destination.

People with a Victorian Seniors Card are still eligible for a 50 per cent discount on trains, trams, and buses, including V/Line trains and coaches. This means cardholders can travel on a weekday for no more than $4.60 per day, or travel on a weekend or public holiday for no more than $3.35 per day if they travel through more than two consecutive zones.
