This guide prioritises coordinated, collaborative and integrated service responses to people living with hoarding and environmental neglect.
The Make Safe guidance provides practice advice through a harm reduction response focused on identifying and addressing risks for a person who presents with hoarding and environmental neglect and others in the environment, including animals. It is person-centred and requires organisations to centralise the voice of the person, with cultural recognition, and integrate their goals into a care/action planning process.
The guidance can be found here: Hoarding and environmental neglect. A training package for all DFFH staff is being developed and will be available through Learning and Development. Work is also currently underway to provide a training video that will complement the guidance and will be accessible by both internal and external staff. The training video will be located in the same place as the guidance and the aim is for it to be completed and available by 30 June 2024.
