The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and Department of Education are piloting a new program to provide educational support to approximately 500 children and young people in care.

Education Supports for Children in Care is being piloted in four areas in Victoria, led by a community service organisation and an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

The program offers one-on-one tutoring to children and young people who are disengaged or at risk of becoming disengaged from school. The program will also work with the child or young person, their care team and school to address other barriers that may affect them going to school.

Referrals to the program can be made by anyone involved with the child or young person’s care team or who provides support.

The aim is to improve school attendance as well as literacy and numeracy skills.

Information for funded organisations is available on the Education Supports for Children in Care webpage.

Program resources including a referral form and re-engagement plan template will be published on this page soon.
