Foster carers play a vital role in our community. They open their hearts and homes to children and young people who cannot live with their family, providing a safe place to heal, grow and thrive.
While the Victorian foster carer community does incredible work, more foster carers are needed. Apply now to be a foster carer and play a part in a child’s life.
The theme of Foster Care Week 2025 is ‘Time to Care’. This theme highlights the contribution that foster carers make to the lives of at-risk children and young people in our community.
Foster Care Association of Victoria (FCAV) is the peak body that represents foster carers. FCAV provides support and information to assist foster carers in their caring role.
The Victorian Government acknowledges FCAV and their work to support and advocate for carers.
Support for foster carers
As part of the Victorian Government’s support for foster carers, the Care Support Help Desk has supported carers with over 17,500 calls. It has supported over 6,800 children and young people to access important documentation such as Medicare cards and birth certificates.
Foster carers can also access the Carer KaFÉ, which provides a range of online and in-person learning and development opportunities to carers.
