The Go Where You’re Needed campaign encourages people to consider a career in child protection.

Consider a career in child protection 

Victoria's child protection service works to ensure children and young people are safe, supported and thrive.  

If you want to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people at risk of harm and neglect, a role in child protection could be the right fit for you! 

There are roles available for people at every step of their career, including: 

  • new graduates starting their careers
  • people changing careers who want to move into a child protection role
  • current practitioners looking to step into a leadership or specialist role.   

Benefits of a career in child protection 

There are many benefits to becoming a child protection practitioner. They include:

  • generous leave entitlements 
  • well-being support 
  • career support.   

Eligible regional staff will receive the retention allowance. This is a payment of $2,500 paid on 1 January and 1 July 2026 and 2027 to eligible employees.
