Registration with the Social Services Regulator

17 June 2025
registration
The Social Services Regulator (the Regulator) has now invited all providers who were delivering in-scope services prior to 1 July 2024 to register under the social services regulatory scheme.

Providers registered with the Human Services Regulator prior to 1 July 2024 had their registration automatically transitioned. However, there were some services that only came into scope from 1 July 2024.

Registered or unregistered providers who have been identified as delivering these services are now asked to register.

These services include:

  • family violence services funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (the department)
  • homelessness services funded by the department (excluding community and public housing)
  • sexual assault services funded by the department
  • any other social service operating prior to 1 July 2024 that is not registered, and is not a supported residential service, family violence, homelessness, sexual assault, Transport Accident Commission or WorkSafe-funded disability service provider.

Organisations delivering any of the above services that have not yet been asked to register their services with the Regulator, or have been asked and are not sure what to do, please reach out to the Regulator’s Transition team at transition@ssr.vic.gov.au.

A service provider delivering any of these services that has not yet submitted their registration application may be operating an unregistered social service. This is an offence under the Social Services Regulation Act 2021, and could impact the provider’s funding from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
