The Social Services Regulation Act 2021 was passed into law in September 2021. It establishes a framework for regulation of Social Services in Victoria and Regulations are required to operationalise the new scheme.
Further detail on the proposed changes is now available in the draft regulations including:
- scope of social services required to comply with the new framework
- registration requirements for social service providers
- service requirements that registered social service providers need to meet
- regulation of out-of-home care workers and carers.
A Regulatory Impact Statement has been prepared which explains the likely impacts of the draft regulations.
Regulations setting out fee levels for the scheme, transitional arrangements, and standards specific to the supported residential services sector will be developed separately and are expected to be made and published in early 2024.
More information, including a copy of the draft regulations and the Regulatory Impact Statement and details on how to make a submission is available on Engage Victoria.
The department is hosting the second of its online information sessions on Wednesday 21 June 2023 which will give an overview of the Regulatory Impact Statement and explain the consultation process. To register visit, Engage Victoria.
